On October 30, 2026, PhD students Benedetta Pipino, Daniela Quintanilla, Irmak Åžen and Dmitrii Gribovskii delivered a lecture on Structured Literature Reviews (SLRs) at the University of Pavia, as part of the Sustainable Performance Management and Sustainability Reporting, Governance and Ethics courses, taught by Professors Chiara Demartini and Valentina Beretta.
The lecture aimed to support MIBE (Master in International Business and Entrepreneurship) students in developing the methodological skills needed for their final course assignments and master’s theses, providing a structured and practical approach to academic research.
The session covered the main stages of conducting a Structured Literature Review, from defining research questions and developing search protocols to literature screening, data coding, evidence synthesis and the identification of research gaps.
Drawing on the ten-step methodological framework proposed by Massaro et al. (2016), the lecture combined theoretical foundations with practical examples and tools for conducting transparent, rigorous and reproducible research.
The initiative provided MIBE students with an opportunity to strengthen their research skills and critical thinking, offering methodological guidance for developing evidence-based academic work in the fields of sustainability, governance and performance management.
