On March 23, 2024, the Institute of Clinical Physiology Institute (IFC) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) organized a workshop in Pisa titled “Smart Horizons in Healthcare: Artificial Intelligence at the Service of Individual and Collective Well-Being.”
In front of professionals, doctors, companies, startups, and stakeholders, several experts from higher education institutions (HEIs) and research centers analyzed the pros and cons of artificial intelligence in terms of technology, ethics, and society.

Dr. Raffaele Conte from IFC-CNR moderated the event, which was sponsored by the Municipality of Pisa and the Region of Tuscany. During his presentation, “The Technological Revolution in (Bio)Medicine: Use Cases for AI in IFC-CNR Projects,” Eng. Alessandro Tonacci discussed AI projects involving IFC, including the DIGI-ME project.
The Director of IFC-CNR, Prof. Fabio Anastasio Recchia, declared “We must also be culturally prepared for artificial intelligence, which is a difficult task because we need to be simple and effective.”
