During the month of June, the University of Pavia proudly hosted the 5th edition of the Summer School in Sustainability Management and Reporting, welcoming students from across Europe for a week-long program focused on one of the most pressing topics of our time: sustainability.
In an era where environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues are increasingly integral to business operations and global policymaking, the Summer School aimed to equip participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate and lead in this evolving landscape. From June 16th-20th, students from institutions such as the University of Vaasa and the Grenoble School of Management—ranging from bachelor and master’s students to PhD candidates—stayed in Pavia for an immersive educational experience.

The program featured two primary modules:
Module A – “Digital Tools for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship” offered a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to sustainability management and reporting. Participants explored international perspectives and developed an understanding of how digital transformation can support inclusive innovation and education.
Module B – “Advanced Digital Technologies in Sustainable Management and Reporting” delved into the digital solutions driving innovation in sustainability. As transparency becomes a cornerstone of ESG reporting, the ability to harness technology for managing and communicating sustainability efforts is not only advantageous but essential.
Beyond academics, the Summer School also emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and community. Social events, including group lunches, a welcome aperitif , and a guided tour of the city, provided students with valuable networking opportunities and a deeper connection to Pavia’s rich heritage.
Students had the opportunity to share their experiences on LinkedIn, hightlighting one of the most impactful aspects:
“collaborating on a practical case study led by Mr. Pietro Negri from Asset. In this project, our team worked to enhance a fashion company’s supply chain by striking the right balance between reducing CO2 emissions, managing costs, and maintaining operational efficiency.”
This initiative was co-financed by the DIGI-ME project underlining a broader commitment to empowering future leaders with the skills to drive sustainable and digital transformation in their respective fields.
